Senior Director, Government Affairs – Asia Pacific, Gilead Sciences, Inc

Claudio Lilienfeld is Gilead Sciences’ Senior Director, Government Affairs. In this capacity, he leads engagement with governments and other stakeholders in support of Gilead’s Access Operations and Emerging Markets business unit, with a focus on the Asia Pacific region. Mr. Lilienfeld also manages Gilead’s engagement in the Sustainable Financing Platform for Global Health, working with NGOs, private investors, governments and multilateral institutions on innovative solutions to health access at the base of the pyramid across emerging markets.

Mr. Lilienfeld previously served as Principal at the Podesta Group, advising clients on policy, politics and government affairs, was a senior Asia and international policy advisor at Google, and headed the South Asia practice at McLarty Associates, a global strategic advisory consulting firm.

Mr. Lilienfeld spent over 20 years in the U.S. Government, ending in 2010. He served as the Deputy Assistant and Acting Assistant U.S. Trade Representative for South and Central Asia from 2006 to 2010, and led South Asia policy in the Office of the Secretary of Defense from 1999 to 2006. From 1993 to 1999, he oversaw Defense Department policy for humanitarian operations.

Mr. Lilienfeld received a BA in Geophysics in 1984 and an MA in International Relations in 1987, both from the University of Chicago. In 2003-2004, Mr. Lilienfeld was an Office of the Secretary of Defense Fellow and Visiting Scholar at Johns Hopkins’ School for Advanced International Studies.
